This summer, our sister, Emily, is working for Turner Construction Company. Emily has been hard at work building the soon-to-be DC United Soccer Stadium right by the Washington Nationals’ stadium.
1. What made you get involved with Turner Construction? Emily: I got involved in Turner Construction after I went to GW’s career fair looking for a Civil Engineering Summer internship! I knew one of the companies I wanted to talk to was Turner because of their great reputation. When I went up and talked to the representative and gave them my résumé, I knew I wanted to be a part of their team. A few weeks later, I was invited back for an interview and it ended in me getting this awesome job this summer. 2. What's has been the most exciting part of working at Turner Construction? Emily: The most exciting thing I get to do is work on one of the biggest projects in the company; I am currently working on the pre-construction team for the DC United Stadium. 3. What do you hope to take away from this experience? Emily: I hope to gain value out of the classroom skills of a civil engineer. I think overall this experience will be a huge contributor to my success as a future civil engineer! Be sure to check back in again next week to hear more about what our amazing AEPHI GW sisters are doing this summer! A couple weeks ago many of our sisters ventured out on the experience of a lifetime – spending a glorious 10 days in Israel on Birthright. Morgan Monsour and Marni Klee were just two of our sisters who shared a bit about their experience.
1. What was your favorite part of your trip to Israel? Marni: Definitely being in Jerusalem. Being in one of holiest cities in the world and traveling to the Western Wall on Shabbat was one of the most amazing experiences that I am so happy I could be a part of. Morgan: My favorite part of the trip would have to be climbing to the top of Masada. We got to sing and dance with everyone in my group in the Bedouin tents. It was amazing. 2. Do you have any incredible memories from the trip? Marni: My favorite part of the trip would have to be our group’s night out in Jerusalem. I got to try such amazing and unique foods and have incredible bonding experiences with my friends on the trip. Being in Israel taught me that there is so much more to Judaism that I can incorporate and appreciate in my daily life. Morgan: Birthright was without a doubt an eye opening experience for me. It helped me to learn a lot about the political conflicts going on in Israel with other neighboring countries as well as witnessing and experiences Jewish tradition and culture in Israel compared to Jewish culture in America. Be sure to come back next week to hear more about what our amazing AEPHI GW sisters are doing this summer! This month, Alpha Gamma chapter is having their Phi Hoops 2016 philanthropy week, which benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Our sisters have made the best of this snow storm and taken the time stuck inside to bond with one another. The 6 members who live in our townhouse invited some of the other sisters to come over and utilize the large townhouse kitchen to make cookies and cupcakes! Last night, our freshmen sisters took advantage of the fact that many of them live in the same dorm building and hung out whole watching movies and drinking hot chocolate. Today, some sisters even ventured out into the snow and had some fun. Snow can't stop sisterhood!
